The origin of San Isidro is linked to the agricultural foundation projects that arose under the protection of the National Colonization Institute , during the 1950s . In 1952, the transformation of unproductive lands began, boosting the surrounding salt marshes and establishing an irrigation network . The architect Fernandez del Amo commissioned the project of the population . In 1956 they began to deliver new homes and lots of land to those who were to be their neighbors. The urban nucleus was within the municipality of Albatera, municipality of which continued depending during the following decades with the name of San Isidro de Albatera. Finally, in 1993 and at the request of the PSOE , it became independent from Albatera , forming an independent municipality.
Demography
In 1995, two years after independence from Albatera, INE accounted for 1,185 inhabitants in San Isidro. According to demographic data referring to 2005, it had a population of 1,368 inhabitants; and as of January 1, 2017, according to the latest revision of the Municipal Register, it has 1,920 2 (with about 9% of immigrants, of which almost three-quarters are European Community).
